HDR PHOTOGRAPHY

-Contributed by Mark Spear, Peppershock's world renowned still photographer and video producer-

noHDRYou may have had this problem with a shot from your digital camera. The sky is over-exposed while the foreground is exposed correctly. The shadow detail is almost non-existent and the clouds have become a white blob. When a graduated neutral density (GND) filter won't solve the exposure problems, try HDR. afterHigh Dynamic Range is a relatively new technique that utilizes more of the tonal range and detail. Here's the catch: You must have at least 3 images, all of the same scene, 3 exposures from under to over, little to no movement of the subject matter...and a program to process the exif data from your digital photos and camera.

GO PRO!

We have all encountered the pathological “Do It Yourselfer”. These are the people who rely on their limited expertise and experience to take on a task better left to the professionals. Just because one can fix the leaky drain under a sink does not make one a plumber, and so it goes with marketing and design. Just because one can design a website, does not mean it will look professional and generate more business.

To make your business grow, you need to have an efficient and dedicated team of professionals working with you. If you hire an integrated marketing firm, then you can leverage the services and expertise of a team who has the knowledge to get the job done in the most effective and productive manner. This requires a certain amount of brave clientele, but in the end the results are worth it!

The benefits of hiring a professional integrated marketing firm:

1. Firms are updated about the latest trends in marketing and technology and have a continual flow of research that they apply to the trade.

2. If you hire professionals, your work will be done in less time and in the long run, will be more cost effective.

3. If you hire a professional to do the work for your business, you can remain tension free.

4. If the integrated marketing firm you hire is experienced in their field, your business will effectively produce a solid ROI.

5. Hiring out lets you make the decisions to take your business to the next step, communicate your wants/needs but then hand it off to someone who can effectively and productively implement the projects.

You do care about quality, right? You get what you pay for. Using a quality firm is beneficial because they live off long-term relationships and want great testimonials and referrals from you.

Just because you self produce a YouTube video handicam style doesn’t mean you’ll get value from it. A well crafted, high quality message will provide more value. Please refrain from turning your handicam into the next big idea, let the pros do it for you.

Leaders and experts in their fields come to you for your expertise, so you should do the same.

Don’t think “service provider.” Think long-term partnerships.

Excerpts from the article featured in IQ Idaho

Jason Crawforth, former owner of TreeTop Technology and current Chief Strategy Officer for MobileDataForce, said it best when he called us the Transition Generation. We are adapting to changes quicker than any other generation before us. In a sense, technology has eaten tradition for breakfast.

And the formalities we follow are changing too. Travis Palmer, a financial services representative with Washington Trust Bank, thinks we have become more efficient by just cutting to the chase. ”We are more straight forward, now we don’t say ‘Mr. so and so,’ we call them by their first name,” Travis said. “Now, with our generation, what you see is what you get.”

Ryan DeLuca is a prime example. His company, BodyBuilding.com, is a flat, less hierarchical organization by nature. Generally speaking, most of his employees are younger than  40. Being a flat organization, Bodybuilding.com cultivates the need for immediate feedback and constant communication. “Sometimes the best ideas come from those on the front lines, they know what’s going on,” Ryan said.

Making Public Relations Work for You

“An image…is not simply a trademark, a design, a slogan or an easily remembered picture. It is a studiously crafted personality profile of an individual, institution, corporation, product or service.”

-Daniel Boorstin, The Image, 1961

Advertising is controlled exposure that a company or an individual purchases; in contrast public relations (PR) attempts to secure favorable media publicity to promote a company or client. In advertising, clients buy space or time for their products or services, and consumers know who paid for the messages, such as a Pepsi Super Bowl advertisement. But with public relations, the process is more subtle, requiring new media to accept the premise or legitimacy of a PR campaign and to use it as news. Companies know they will sell more products if they are associated with a positive public image and values. Here are three great ways to secure public relations:

  1. Donate goods or services to a local non-profit.

  2. Have a professionally designed website that is easy to navigate.

  3. Coordinate a special event to support a good cause.

Let us help you with the numerous communication strategies that encompass public relations. Peppershock Media Productions knows how to create newsworthy events. We have cultivated associations with editors, reporters, freelance writers, and broadcast news directors to secure favorable coverage in the news media. Peppershock Media Productions creates high quality video news releases, public service announcements, press releases, and can build your website! We can make public relations work for you.  RSS FEEDS!
rss buttonsThe RSS symbol (shown left) is prevalent on most websites. You see it everywhere, but do you
know what it is for?

RSS stands for Real Simple Syndication. When a website has an RSS feed it is said to be "syndicated."  Basically it’s a simple tool that allows you to subscribe to live content. It is content on demand. The reader or aggregator is a way to be continuously updated when a source posts newly updated information that you have subscribed too.

For instance, Google has a feature called iGoogle. It’s a free service that allows you to create your own personalized page.  You can access your gMail, check local weather, read the very latest article posted by CNN, get a new recipe for tonight’s dinner or find the quote of the day.  The content that gets delivered is entirely up to you, the user.  It’s like subscribing to the local newspaper and only having the sections you want to read delivered.

There are many services similar to Google’s (Yahoo, MSN, FeedBucket, etc.).

To subscribe to the Peppershock RSS feed via iGoogle, simply go to peppershock.com and click on the RSS icon in the bottom right corner of the page.  Once added to your Google Reader (iGoogle) you’ll never miss another Marketing Gem of the Month again!

If you would like assistance in creating an RSS feed for your company website, we can provide this consulting service.  Give us a call and we can discuss your needs.... it's a great way to communicate with your clients!
